BarGen - Barcode Generation Tool |
|||
Version: | 1.18 (2011-06-04)
Usage: | free | ||
Description: |
BarGen is a very simple barcode generation tool. BarGen was created in 2004 when I worked on some barcode issues. I needed just a very simple tool to create quickly some barcodes. The generated barcodes can be viewed, printed and saved as image files. BarGen uses external Java classes of the Barbecue project (Many thanks to the people involved!) which provides barcode generation in Java, and that for free. However, so far a simple desktop application built upon these classes was missing. Further information about Barbecue can be found at: http://barbecue.sourceforge.net . Currently, not all features of Barbecue are supported. E.g. there is not yet a support for all barcode type specific settings (e.g. extended Code 39). And it has to be mentioned that both, BarGen and Barbecue are in a beta stadium and may contain some bugs! E.g. PDF417 code may be very experimental so far. Maybe additional features will be added depending on time issues, feedback and further improvements of Barbecue project. |
||
Requirements: |
Any system (e.g. MS Windows, Mac, Linux) with Java 2 Runtime Environment (JRE) Release 1.4 or higher installed. Installed Barbecue Java classes, a complete distribution is included in the download package. |

JW SMS - Special SMS Type Messaging Tool |
|||
Version: | 1.01 (2011-06-04)
Usage: | free | ||
Description: |
JW SMS is a simple and free Java SMS messaging application. Why another SMS application? Because I needed a tool which is able to send special SMS types like the voice message notification ones. By using such special SMS types it is possible to get rid of certain symbols and alerts on the mobile. These might remain e.g. when a mobile network provider (e.g. a different one of another country) sends a new-voice-message SMS in case a new voice message is left, and afterwards the mailbox is called with a different provider, not sending a second no-new-voice-messages SMS. Although this should be a common problem, I couldn't find any small and free SMS application being able to send these kind of SMS. Only professional and expensive SMS server software with limited testing periods. Usage and distribution of the application itself is free. However, since any SMS is sent through the connected mobile, it will get charged by the provider as if it was sent directly using the phone! Furthermore, it is NOT ALLOWED to use it for teasing others and any user is responsible by themself for things done with this application! Sorry, but please note as well that installation might require some manual work and a certain system knowledge/experience. Update: On most of the recent mobiles (e.g. Android devices) there is meanwhile a built-in functionality to delete such notification symbols. In this case it is not necessary anymore to make use of this tool. |
||
Requirements: |
- Java 2 Runtime Environment (JRE) Release 1.4 or higher installed. - Installed Java Comm extension, a complete distribution is included in the download package. - Compatible GSM mobile or modem and operating system along with respective drivers and preferences done (e.g. a working serial ("COM") port). |

JChat |
|||
Version: | 0.11 (2002-03-11)
Usage: | free | ||
Description: |
JChat is a very small and simple chat system everybody may use for free
on their web server, within the home network or even for direct
communication between small Java-enabled devices (PDAs, etc...). However, it has to be said that JChat is a very simple chat system, written and developed "just for fun". It will for sure not fulfill any professional demands. On my homepage, there is a JChat running live. ;-) I've also developed a Java MIDP Client for Java enabled smartphones available. So it is possible to log in also with a smartphone. Please have a look at the other downloads of my homepage regarding this. The server application runs on different operating systems with installed Java. In connection with an HTTP server, all a client user needs to do is visit a web site with an Java enabled browser. The Java applet of this package will then be downloaded and run within the visitor's browser. JChat doesn't require much ressources. A system supporting at least PersonalJava and sufficient display/input possibilities should be enough. It should even run directly on different handheld devices offering PersonalJava and an HTTP server. |
||
Requirements: |
Server application: An operating system with at least support for Personal Java specification. Regarding usual desktop operating systems the usual Java 2 Runtime Environment (JRE) is more than enough. Client applet: Should run with nearly all browsers and appletviewers handling Java applets. Update: Unfortunately, meanwhile the original Java applet approach is resigned. And given the necessary steps for an user to get such an applet running (comprehensive security settings which might even endanger the system if not done properly) it is not reasonable anymore to continue this project. With missing support for the original Java midlets on most of the recent mobile devices this is true as well for the MChat client. |

An internet and Java MIDlet capable device (e.g. Siemens SL45i, Nokia N95, ...) is required. |
